Our Story

Monterey Gold Honey is the labor of love of Paul and Larissa Del Piero. Born and raised amongst the beautiful ocean views and agricultural bounty of the Monterey Peninsula, Paul married his college sweetheart, Larissa, in the fall of 2013. Together they continue a family legacy of farming and ranching in Monterey County that spans over 5 generations.

Our Honey

Our honey is all produced in small batches from sustainable apiaries in the Monterey Peninsula. Our bees are free to fly wherever they please – gathering pollen and nectar from the best flowers and plants. Making California’s best honey means focusing on the basics and cutting out the gimmicks. That’s why we:

Make one type of honey
Harvest once a year
Never use synthetic pesticides or chemicals in our hives

Our bees are allowed to forage on a wide variety of flowers and nectar to produce their honey. What makes this honey so special is that it truly reflects the environment that the bees live in.

Winemakers call this “taste of place” terroir. And even more than wine grapes, the color, flavor, and even aroma of a honey is profoundly influenced by the flowers, seasons, weather, and terrain that the honey comes from. This is what makes our honey so unique.

Obviously we think our honey is the best, and people seem to agree! Monterey Gold has won gold medals and blue ribbons in blind taste tests from Orange County to Santa Cruz, and was a finalist for Best Honey in the World in 2015 and 2016.

The Monterey Peninsula is consistently ranked as one of the most beautiful places in the state of California. With rugged ocean cliffs, smooth sandy beaches and miles of open green fields, Monterey is a place of stunning natural beauty year-round. 125 miles to the south of San Francisco and 145 miles to the north of San Luis Obispo, Monterey’s unique terroir and cool ocean breezes create ideal climate for honey production. We believe these unique conditions are what has made our honey the most award-winning honey in California.
